Family History

Searching through memories like old film stills,
Remembering loved ones as if parts of dreams,
Bittersweet thoughts as an object brings an image long forgotten,
How life changes.

Looking through old photographs, seeking missed smiles,
Hearing their voices as a laugh is revealed on the page,
Finding new family with shared heritage,
How life continues.

Across miles and centuries as if there were none,
Family trees branch out, fingers of discovery touching hearts,
Dreams awoken and shared by further generations,
How life grows.

Pick Your Place

Pernickety Penelope was perfectly preened,
Pernickety Penelope visited the Queen,
When the Queen saw her, she gave a big grin,
And said, “Penelope you’re as neat as a pin!”
Penelope looked at the Queen through proud tears,
“Why, your Majesty has plum preserve round her ears!”
Pernickety Penelope proved a poor guest,
She was put out of the palace and placed under arrest!
Pernickety Penelope was perfectly preened,
But her Majesty proudly remembered who’s Queen.
